Building a better water company

Learn about our water sources and how we support communities, the environment, and the economy.

+ We are committed to the sustainable use of water in the communities where we live and operate.

We monitor our operations each year and adjust as needed to help ensure our shared resources are protected. Selecting and managing our water sources is a thorough and meticulous process guided by a dedicated team of engineers, geologists, and hydrogeologists who rigorously monitor a variety of environmental elements, including habitat assessments, water levels, water flows, and water withdrawals.

To demonstrate a deeper level of engagement and achievement in water stewardship that is needed to help preserve and protect freshwater ecosystems, we have committed by 2025 to certify all of our sites globally under the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) Standard. The AWS Standard is the first, comprehensive, global standard for measuring responsible water stewardship across social, cultural, environmental and economic criteria. As of December 2020, 14 of our facilities in the U.S., and one in Canada have been certified under the AWS Standard. Our Hope BC facility was the first AWS certified facility in Canada.

We do not compete with municipalities for water. EVER. And we do not privatize public water supplies

+ Bottled water is essential in times of natural disaster or other emergencies.

We work on an ongoing basis with relief partners, such as Canadian Red Cross, Local Foodbanks, and not-for-profit organizations to help deliver water in times of natural disaster or other emergencies. We frequently supply drinking water to local municipalities and first responders when tap water may be unavailable. During the congoing COVID pandemic in 2020-21 we donated over 1.5 million bottles of water to communities in need.

+ We are investing in local community public spaces recycling programs and working with the industry to transition to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs in several provinces across the country.

We funded a $50,000 public spaces recycling pilot program for the Township of Puslinch in 2020. This project included several dual purpose bins an education campaign and waste audit. The community retained the multi-purpose, durable bins after the program in local parks and the community centre. We continue to work with the Canadian Beverage Association to participate in the re-design of the Ontario Blue Box program as well as provide feedback and participation in several other provinces as they move to EPR.
